Best Curly Hair Products

By Tina Bottle

Most people with curly hair can't go product free. Of course, you need to shampoo and condition, but there is also a need for styling products. The products that work for you might not work for the next person even if you both have curly hair because everyone's curly hair is different.

There are big curls, little curls, medium curls, and tiny curls. All curls are different and all have different degrees of dryness. You have to experiment to find the product that works best for you because it might not be the same as the next person.

Start by shampooing your hair. Shampoo can be really drying, so try not to shampoo more than a few times a week. When you do shampoo, get a shampoo that will moisturize your curls. Don't use a harsh shampoo that will strip your hair of all its natural moisture. Look for a shampoo made for dry hair or curly hair.

Now you need to condition your hair once it is clean. Stay away from thin cheap conditioners like Vo5 or Suave. They are very thin and won't do much for you hair. Use a conditioner that is thick and let it sit on your hair for a least a minute before you rinse it out.

Always condition your hair every time you wash it. Concentrate more conditioner on the ends to get them extra moisturized because the ends are your oldest hair and usually the driest.

Don't skip the conditioner! It is the most important step for curly hair. Even a daily conditioner still might not be enough. Use a deep conditioner once a week or once a month. A deep treatment will give you that extra moisture it needs when it it needs it.

Once you are clean and conditioned, you will be styling. Styling products are important to get the right curls. If you skip the styling products, your hair may frizz up and just get unruly. There are several different types of styling products you can use. Whichever you choose I recommend always starting with a leave-in conditioner first. This ensures that you won't lose moisture throughout the day.

Next, you will need to use a styling product that holds your curls and reduces frizz. A serum is a possibility to help reduce frizz, but on top of that I recommend either a gel or mousse. Both of these provide much needed hold for frizzy hair. - 15995
