A Cellulite Treatment That Suits You

By Jessica J Kavanaugh

Cellulite occurs when the fat underneath the skin becomes lumpy and is often seen on the thighs, buttocks and stomach. The condition occurs mostly in women and the risk of being affected increases as a woman becomes older. Most women will have cellulite in their 30's but it can occur earlier or later. Getting rid of cellulite is difficult but there are various methods available that can help you to reduce its appearance.

The most common reason for the development of cellulite is excess fat. The fat layer just underneath the skin is where cellulite forms and if you are carrying excess weight this fat will begin to become lumpy as more is added to the layer. Studies have indicated that women will put on 15 pounds of fat each decade. This is why it is important to keep your weight under control at all times by eating a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water.

But a diet change is only half the battle if you don't incorporate exercise in to your lifestyle. To do this you should focus on cardiovascular exercise and weight training to ensure that you build muscle to replace the fat that you burn.

For the cardio you can do any type of exercise that will raise you heart rate, getting you breathing heavily and burning fat. This could be walking, stair climbing or cycling. Don't forget to warm up and cool down properly to avoid any injuries.

The muscle toning part of your program should be done after the cardio. Fifteen minutes to 30 minutes of intense strength training focusing on the areas which are the problem is the best way to go. If you have problem with cellulite on the buttocks that do exercise that work the buttock muscles like lunges, squats or leg press.

To prevent injuries and muscle soreness, you should warm up and down properly and do some stretching at the end of the workout. This is important but not necessarily done by many people at the gym.

A simple and easy method to minimize the look of cellulite is to have a spray on tan done. The more dark your skin is the less likely people will notice the cellulite. However, you shouldn't tan in the sun if you have cellulite as the UV light will damage the skin and make the cellulite even more problematic. - 15995
