Turn Wholesome Fruits and Veggies into Natural Beauty Products

By Marilyn Etzel

Beauty is one thing we women have wanted to achieve for ages. Chemicals can damage your skin so we turn to natural beauty treatments to do the trick without harmful side effects. If you are in favor of beauty and looking your best, try home beauty recipes.

Even companies that say their beauty products are organic or all natural are not always being totally honest with you. A product that contains natural oils may only contain a small percentage of the actual oil and a large percentage of fillers that can irritate skin.

Here are a few facts. Cosmetic products begin in the lab as chemical formulas. This is the same way that medicines begin. The use of natural ingredients for medicines and cosmetics goes back centuries to ancient civilizations. Today, cosmetic companies believe they are going one better when they add artificial ingredients to achieve the same result. Unnatural additions can bother your skin when applied.

What's wrong with nature? You probably have many natural beauty ingredients in your home right now. Home beauty recipes include fruits, herbs, flowers, and vegetables as ingredients. If you don't have your own garden, choose products that have been cultivated without chemicals. Some pesticides can leech into fruits and vegetables.

1. Lemons - They are useful for more than a cool drink on a hot summer day. Lemon juice functions as an astringent and a skin lightener. Wash a lemon and use one half to rub over your face to pull out impurities and excess oils. Lemon smelling hair spray can be created using lemon juice that has been reduced in a saucepan and reconstituted with water.

2. Roses - they smell great and add softness to the skin. Use natural rose petals that are free of insects and chemicals and add them to a hot tub of bath water for a naturally fragrant bath. Make your own rose water (steep roses in water) and combine with coconut milk for a bath skin treatment.

3. Strawberries - We all hate how strawberry seeds get in our teeth and bridgework. But, those seeds are good for more than being a nuisance. Use those small seeds as an exfoliant for your body and face. Combine strawberries with coarse salt crystals and some olive oil to create an exfoliating scrub.

4. Bananas - Bananas contain potassium which is naturally found in the body as an electrolyte and maintains the water balance in the body. Crush a few ripe bananas and mix with yogurt and egg white for a facial beauty mask.

5. Honey - Bees can appreciate this treatment. Natural honey contains antibacterial properties that are good for your skin. Create a facial mask by using raw honey and cooked oatmeal or honey and vinegar. Vinegar is also an astringent that works for oily skin. The oatmeal provides nourishment for dry skin.

Get back to nature by putting together your own beauty treatments from plants and other ingredients that are not harmful to the body and contain no fillers or preservatives. You might have to mix up your favorite moisturizer or beauty mask once every two weeks or so but that's a small price to pay for natural beauty. - 15995
