Your Curly Hair Length

By Cynthia Ramona

The length you choose to maintain your hair at can make or break your entire look. It's hard to get the exact right length. It might be just a little too long or a little too short. It doesn't matter who you are, finding the right length and look isn't always easy. You don't want your hair to be too long or too short.

Curly short hair can be either easy or hard to maintain. With really short hair, your hair is always very healthy because it is only the newest hair and the dead ends are frequently cut off. Healthy hair looks better and behaves better giving you more beautiful curls.

Also, short hair tends to curl better. There is less hair there to weight it down. This can be a problem to get it just right though because you don't want it to end up looking like an afro.

If you want really short curly hair, work carefully with your hairdresser. Find a cut that looks right curly and that you can easily maintain. If you cut it really short, be aware that if you decide to grow it long again, it might look funny for a little while when it's in the in between stages.

Medium length hair, or shoulder length, almost always works very well with curly hair. It's long enough to not curl into a ball, depending on how curly your hair is, but it's not too short that the weight of your hair will pull out the curls. I've always liked to keep my hair at this length and find it looks its best. You could experiment with layers if you want, but it might work best for you to keep one length.

Long hair with curls can look beautiful but be tricky. One problem with long hair is that the longer it gets, the older it is. If you have damaged hair that you blow dry, straighten, and color often, your hair will look damaged.

Make sure you give your curls as much moisture as possible, especially if you are trying to grow it long. Keeping it moisturized will keep it healthy and looking its best. Trim off the split ends and the dead ends to keep it looking beautiful.

Long hair poses some other problems as well. If your hair isn't really curly, long hair can end up pulling the curls straight because if the weight. If it's really frizzy, you could end up with a giant poof. You can grow it long, just be prepared to have extra products to keep it under control. - 15995
