If you read the newspapers or watch television news, opportunity is the last thing that you think about. Most people are thinking of survival, not about opportunity. It's all very depressing, but is it? Are we all talking ourselves into a problem? Is it all becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy? Perhaps we should change our mind-set and start thinking of what opportunities the future could hold?
What is happening to the world? It's difficult to make sense of it sometimes, but this sort of thing happens very rarely. Actually it's a 'good thing'. Why? Because the 'old order' is being given its marching orders. They have been seen through. We have had enough of greed and corruption. The interests of the many need to prevail over the interests of the few.
We can complain all we like about the reasons for our predicament, but it won't get us very far. We know where the blame lies, but chasing them down is a waste of energy. What we all have to do is to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and get on with creating a new moral order and a better and more just future for our families - and to make sure that we have safeguards in place to see this doesn't happen again.
We are going through a period of structural readjustment. The outcome of this must be a better world order and the ability for individual economies to work together in mutual self interest.
This all sounds good, but what has it to do with opportunity? What has it got to do with losing weight? It has implications for both and it's all to do with change. The world is changing and we must change with it. With change comes opportunity.
One of the manifestations of our unhappiness with the world and with ourselves is the obesity epidemic. It has many different causes, but it serves as an example as to how little attention we have paid to the important things in life. We have become lazy in the way we think and in the way we look after ourselves.
What we all have to do now is to make change. There really isn't any alternative any more. If we are to survive and prosper, we have to change our ways. We have to become leaner and fitter. If we do then there will be a whole host of opportunities for us to grasp - and we'll be able to make the best of them.
Making change as far as your weight is concerned is all about identifying your old behaviors and learning new habits, slim habits. This is the way to make real change and achieve permanent weight loss. Answer the challenge and the new world will be your oyster.
